WINSTED/WINCHESTER ATTRACTIONS

Highland Lake: 440-acre resort-style lake with two public beaches and a State boat launch.

Winchester Center: Quintessential New England hamlet located in the hills of the southern Berkshires.
Location: State Rt. 263

Town Green National Historic District (East End Park): Typical New England Town Green surrounded by historic buildings and Northwest Connecticut Community College.
Location: Corner of Rts. 8 and 44 in Winsted

Main Street/Downtown: National Main Street Downtown: Main Street, 1.5 mile long downtown commercial district, contains a collection of circa late 1800s/early 1900s buildings which house a variety of restaurants, antique shops, a bistro movie theater, bowling alley, Northwest Connecticut Community College, and several historic and beautiful churches, all paralleling the Mad River.

Soldier's Monument: Civil War Monument and Park dedicated September 11, 1890, to honor the Winsted residents who fought in the Civil War.

Bridge Street/Prospect Street Rail Trail: Bridge Street/Prospect Street Rail Trail: Walkway along the Mad River with plaques depicting the 1955 flood and the old railway.

American Mural Project: The American Mural Project is a three dimensional painting tributing working people in America. Made out of a variety of different materials from aluminum, copper, fiberglass, marble, fabric, ceramic tile and blown glass, it will measure 120 feet long, 48 feet high and six feet deep, the largest collaborative indoor artwork in the world. In the process of completing the mural, AMP will visit all 50 states to work with people of every age creating sections that will be included in the final artwork.
