The day-to-day operation of the Wastewater Treatment Facility is under the direction of Richard Kemp, Chief Operator. A process control operator, a maintenance operator, and a laboratory technician complete the single shift staffing. Some of the processes and equipment used in treatment include: an automated grit/sand removal system, five primary gravity sedimentation tanks, two anaerobic sludge digesters with methane gas recovery, two one meter belt dewatering presses, an activated sludge system with single stage nitrification for conversion of ammonia to nitrate nitrogen, and a sodium hypochlorite diffusion system for final effluent disinfection. The dewatered sludge cake is loaded into roll-off containers and hauled to a D.E.P.-approved disposal site.
