Senior Center

The Senior Center's mission is to enhance and improve the lives of Winsted's senior citizens by providing educational, recreational, and cultural activities, social services, health clinics, travel opportunities, daily nutritious lunches, and door to door transportation services, as well as a welcoming facility for group gathering.
Van transportation is provided locally, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. and 2 evenings per month, 6-10 p.m. Suggested donation for each ride is $1.
Our daily Nutrition Program is available Monday through Friday at 12 noon. A full course hot meal is provided at a cost of $3 for those age 60 or older and $4.50 for those younger than 60. Reservations must be called into the Center by 1 p.m. the day before.
Group travel opportunities are available monthly for day trips. Overnight trips are offered approximately 6 times a year. Trips are open to the general public.
Free or low cost health clinics are offered throughout the year. These includes blood pressure checks, skin cancer screening, cholesterol testing, vision and hearing testing, bone density testing, stroke screening, foot care, and flu and pneumonia shots.
The Center publishes a monthly newsletter listing all upcoming activities, trips, and programs. Seniors may pick up the newsletter at the Center or it can be mailed out at a cost of $5.50 per year.
Assistance is available at the Center for those needing help with medical insurance problems, including supplemental insurance and ConnPACE.
Daily activities include exercise class, choral group, bingo, card playing, line dancing, crafts, and pool. Other activities include parties, musical programs, picnics, ice cream socials and intergenerational activities with children.
The Senior Center Director is also the Municipal Agent for the town. She processes rent rebates once a year and is a resource for information and referrals for all types of services available.
