Known as the Laurel City, we invite you to discover the endless opportunities for relaxing in Winsted/Winchester. Each season offers an abundance of activities and beauty – exceptional fall foliage, beautiful laurel in June, cool forests and lakes in summer, and breath-taking snow scenes in the winter. Whether you come for a week, a day, or on your way to the ski mountains, we have much to offer.
With picturesque lakes and mountains to explore, scenic roads for bicyclists, motorists and motorcycle enthusiasts, we are the outdoor adventure you have been looking for. Bring a bike, kayak or paddleboard or a boat. Load up the fishing gear. Bring your walking shoes as we have great trails for hiking and exploring.
Winsted offers a variety of indoor activities as well. Take in a movie at the renowned Gilson Theater or go duckpin bowling at Laurel Lanes both conveniently located on Main Street.
If it is history you are looking for, take in a museum at the American Tort Museum or the Winchester Historical Society Rockwell House. Our Soldiers’ Monument Park and East End Park offer some of Connecticut’s best Civil War monuments. We also have two historic districts, four historic cemeteries, and great period architecture.
We have great shopping, and local artisans and galleries are the perfect place to shop and explore and support small business. After you have “shopped till you drop”, get a bite to eat. Winsted is home to an amazing supply of restaurants that will provide you with delicious meals. In the summer, stop in at the local Farmer’s Market.
