Protecting Winchester's Lakes

THIS PAGE IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A resource for residents, visitors, and stewards of all of Winchester’s most treasured natural assets.

Highland Lake is one of Winchester’s most treasured natural resources — a 445-acre, spring-fed gem known for its clear waters, scenic beauty, and year-round recreation. Whether you're boating, fishing, swimming, or simply taking in the view, the lake is a vital part of the town’s identity, economy, and ecosystem.

In addition to Highland Lake, Winchester is fortunate to have other beautiful lakes and ponds as well including Winchester Lake, Park Pond, Crystal Lake, Winchester Club Pond, and others.

All of these valuable resources are vulnerable. Stormwater runoff, shoreline erosion, and everyday residential activities can impact water quality and threaten its long-term health.

This page is your guide to being a good lake steward. Whether you live on the lake, near the watershed, or just visit seasonally, your actions matter. Here, you’ll find simple, effective steps you can take to help protect Highland Lake — and links to local organizations, regulations, and tools to support your efforts.

The Highland Lake Watershed Association has a large amount of information regarding the lake and can be accessed here: Home - Highland Lake Watershed Association
