The Town of Winchester has been notified by the State Historic Preservation Office & Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) that the Winsted Water Works historic portion along Winchester Road and the Old Waterbury Turnpike/Rugg Brook Road is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The State Historic Preservation Board evaluated the historical significance and deemed the water works met the criteria of the National Register of Historic Places.
The Water Works joins the Winsted Hosiery Mill, Winsted Green Historic District, Winchester Soldiers’ Monument, and Gilbert Clock Factory on the National Register.
Many thanks to Jim Rollins at Public Works/Water & Sewer Commission for pursuing this designation. The Town of Winchester is fortunate to have people that developed our water systems over time.
