Winsted Water Works has announced that a twelve (12”) inch diameter water main broke near 47 South Main Street overnight, occuring at about 3:30AM. The leak has been contained and water service will soon be restored to everyone in town except CVS, McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. Please be advised that dirty water should be expected until the Water Department has repaired the leak and flushed the system. Furthermore, please note that while it is okay to use the water to flush toilets, until such time that it clears, drinking and showering is not advised.
Detours in this regard are occuring with east bound traffic being detoured down Rowley Street. West bound traffic is being shifted onto the east bound lane.
It looks like water service will be restored sometime just about dark.
The replacement pipe has been installed and we’re getting ready to start opening valves to begin filling.
It will take some time to slowly bring the system up to full pressure and check for leaks but we’re getting close.
Once the system is up to pressure we’ll restart the pump station on Oakdale Ave. and restore water to Upper Oakdale, Nalette Drive and Sunny Ridge.
